(a) Personal Narrative Contest: (8-10yrs)

  • Write about a moment in your life that shifted the way you see the world or yourself. How did this experience shape who you are today?
  • Describe a moment when you overcame a fear. What did you learn about yourself through this experience?
  • Tell us about a day when something unexpected happened that made you see your family in a new light. How did this change your relationship with them?
  • Describe a time when you made a mistake and had to apologise. How did this moment change the way you think about responsibility and honesty?
(b) Personal Narrative Contest: (11-14yrs)

  • Write about a moment in your life that shifted the way you see the world or yourself. How did this experience shape who you are today?
  • Tell us about a moment when you had to make a difficult decision that affected others. How did this experience impact your approach to leadership and responsibility?
  • Reflect on a time when you discovered a new passion or talent. How did this revelation change your goals and the way you see your future?
  • Reflect on a moment when you stood up for something you believed in, even when it was difficult. How did this experience shape your values and sense of identity?

Submission Process and Guidelines

  • Word Limit
    • Ages 8-10: Maximum of 500 words
    • Ages 11-14: Maximum of 750 words
  • All entries must be the author's own work. Plagiarised or AI-generated submissions will be disqualified.
  • Revisions are not permitted after the submission deadline. Only your first submission will be accepted.

A subjury of 3 members will blind score the entries.
The top 10 entries (2 per category) will be forwarded to the main jury, including Paro Anand.

Can I participate in both categories?
Yes, participants can submit entries for both the Personal Narrative and Essay contests.
How will I know if I am a finalist?
Finalists will be notified by January 15th, 2025, via email.
What if I cannot attend the Awards Ceremony?
If a finalist is unable to attend, they must notify us in advance. Alternate arrangements may be discussed.
What is the interview process like?
Finalists will be interviewed to confirm the originality of their work. The interview will include questions about the writing process and, for the essay contest, knowledge of Paro Anand’s books.
What if my submission exceeds the word limit?
Submissions exceeding the word limit (500 words for ages 8-10, and 750 words for ages 11-14) will not be considered, so ensure your work stays within the limit.
Can I make edits to my submission after sending it?
No, once submitted, entries cannot be edited. Make sure you review your work carefully before submission.
How should I format my entry?
All entries should be typed, in a legible font, and submitted as a PDF or Word document. Handwritten entries will not be accepted.
Can I submit illustrations or images along with my writing?
No, only written submissions will be accepted. Please refrain from adding images or illustrations.
Are group submissions allowed?
No, this is an individual contest. Group submissions will not be accepted.
Are there any entry fees?
No, participation in the Master of Moments: One Up Children’s Writing Award is free.
